What "microdosing" a GLP-1 actually means
Microdosing refers to using a GLP-1 medication (semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide) at a fraction of the standard escalated dose used in the approval trials for obesity or type 2 diabetes. It is not an FDA-approved protocol. It is an off-label prescribing pattern that has emerged from clinical practice.
What the evidence does, and does not, show
The pivotal trials (STEP, SURMOUNT) studied full titrated doses. There is no large, published, randomized outcome trial demonstrating that microdosing alone produces meaningful, durable weight loss. [Citation placeholder, link to a current review or systematic search.] Anything you read online claiming microdosing is "just as effective" is extrapolating well beyond the data.
What clinicians observe, and what smaller reports suggest, is that a low dose can reduce appetite noise and side-effect burden compared with a full escalated dose. That is a different, and much narrower, claim.
An honest, compliance-forward framing
- Microdosing is not FDA-approved.
- Microdosing is not proven to cause weight loss on its own.
- Any decision to use, or stop using, a GLP-1 belongs with a licensed prescribing clinician.
- A prescription without a metabolic rebuild is not a solution.
Where PHD fits
PHD does not prescribe GLP-1s or offer microdosing. We are a natural-first metabolic program. If you're weighing a GLP-1, that conversation belongs with your physician. If you want to rebuild the metabolism underneath, with or without ever using a medication , see the natural alternative we were built for.
FAQ
Is microdosing FDA-approved?
No. It is an off-label prescribing pattern.
Does microdosing work for weight loss?
There is no large randomized trial showing that microdosing alone produces meaningful, durable weight loss. It should not be sold as a standalone solution.
Are the side effects lower at a lower dose?
Generally the intensity of GI side effects scales with dose, but individual response varies and supervision by a prescribing clinician is required.
Does PHD prescribe microdosing?
No. PHD is a natural-first metabolic program and does not prescribe GLP-1s.
