Mocktail Happy Hour
During this time, we are experiencing a change of pace in our life. More time spent with family from the comfort of our own homes, virtual hangouts with some of our closest friends, and what may feel like a lot of free time to fill. As we gear up for spring and warmer weather, we also gear up for certain habits and behaviors that we associate with a change in weather; we’re tempted with moments to enjoy a cocktail or a beer on the porch with our loved-ones on a Friday afternoon or Sunday evening. Before embarking on your PHD journey, you may have enjoyed one, two, three, or maybe even more while enjoying the spring and sunshine on the porch, but now, in the midst of your journey to your own optimal health, you are faced with the temptation; do you sip on that cold beverage or do you pass it up and push forward towards your health goals?
Now is the time for reflection. How many of these cold drinks have you already enjoyed in your lifetime? How many will you get to enjoy AFTER you get your body to its most efficient metabolic state? Remember, during this time we are temporarily turning down the party music, we’ve partied like rock stars for far too long, however, there is no reason why we can’t participate in a relaxing afternoon on the porch while still sticking to our PHD program.
Imagine this – A warm Saturday afternoon in April. You are sitting on your porch or deck with no meetings lined up and no-where to be. Relaxing in your Adirondack chair, while resting your feet on your outdoor coffee table. Your family sits around you chatting and giggling. You finally have a moment to slow down and recognize the sweet sound of the chirping birds in the trees. Your neighbor peers over at you from their porch with a drink in their hand, lifts the drink, and offers you a friendly ‘cheers’ (from 6 feet afar, of course). In response, you lift your drink in hand and air cheers them with none other than your PHD friendly mocktail! You take a sip, and feel accomplished that you can enjoy a day as perfect as today while still focusing on your health goals.
We, here at PHD, have put together a list of approved mocktails for you to enjoy! Try enjoying out of a cocktail glass, copper mug or wine glass. Who knows, you may even find your new go-to favorite drink to enjoy post quarantine…
